But some were rated higher depending on it's application. 1989 was not a high horsepower maybe 230 or torque motor if I recall correctly. You could just have that trans freshened up to handle new motor.
About 400-450 HP/TQ is the limit on the stock TH400. With ONE almost free modification and some minor valve body calibration changes, 800 HP on an otherwise stock TH400 is not a problem if it's assembled well (good endplay, etc), and the 34 element sprag is a wise addition above 450 HP or any drag usage. jakeshoe, Nov 5, 2008.

H&S pushed their shop 2011 6.7L with stock 6r140 to 9**hp and over 1700ft/tq. In their breaking point test. Trans slipped for very short time, then TC locked and trans never slipped again.The Z32 actually fits better in a 240z than a 280z. You need to extensively modify the transmission mounting points on a 280z, while for a 240z you simply build a different transmission mount that bolts to the stock location.
